What a busy July for me!
First, I have just 3 courses before my BA in Creative Writing is complete! Then I start the hell of looking for graduate schools. I have several in mind already, but I will say nothing more until I’m accepted. One way or another, I will have that witchy librarian author dream fulfilled.
Second, Did Ya Read It? will finally be releasing soon! This project, done in tandem with three other local authors, is a podcast book club. We will also have solo episodes and side episodes based off our interests. My show, Tea Time with Desi, will focus on books that incorporate food because I’m such a foodie. Every episode I will showcase a book, talk about my feelings on it, and recommend a tea and sweet to pair with it. I also plan on recording these as Booktube segments.
Third, the Romeo and Juliet project, working title EMBERS + THORNS, is being drafted. I hope to get at least 50% of this draft done this month. The series “The Villainess Gambit” is also on track to be released in October of this year.
Fourth, this fall I am going to take courses on becoming a certified Developmental Editor. Editing is something I genuinely love to do (more than drafting, in fact), and after thinking long and hard about which aspect to devote myself to, Developmental Editing seemed like the best fit for me. Developmental Editors are more like problem solvers– we look at the story as a whole and work from the big picture. When I try to edit prose, I notice that I tend to inject too much of myself and my personal style into my suggestions. That’s fine if it’s me and my personal projects, not so much if it’s someone else.
Fifth, if you’ve ventured into my bio, you may have seen that I run an international writing group called Starlight Novelists. I’m going to expand Starlight Novelists into a Writing Retreat service. Our first retreat is scheduled to be in 2023. While this first retreat will be small and centered around personal projects, I would also like to hold retreats centered around developmental editing. When Starlight Novelists is up and running, I’ll be sure to post it here!
Much love,
