The Most Important Phrase For A Writer — A Spell From Me to You

One of the most difficult things for a Creative is maintaining and creating confidence.

And it’s hard to feel good about yourself when you’re writing and comparing yourself to masters of the craft.

I, Word Witch Autumn, have a little magic spell to teach you.

You may not believe in magic. If you rolled your eyes and prepared a pragmatic response — let me assure you, this spell is also backed by science. We all could use a little magic in our lives. Allow yourself one magic spell and become a master of it.

Ready?

Take a deep breath and read this aloud before you begin writing today:

“I am writing good sentences today.”

And then, once you have finished your writing session, say:

“I’ve written good sentences today.”

Never, ever, call your writing bad.

At worst, it is unpolished. Do not compare your first draft to another’s final draft. You will only end up demotivating yourself.

From now on, whenever you are writing new content, you only write good sentences.

Are they great? No. Fantastic? No. Perfect? No. NYT bestselling quote? No.

But they are good. And because they start out good, you will be able to refine them into something great.

By shifting your mindset, you will write more and feel better about writing in general. When that occurs, it becomes a domino effect. You’ll write more. You’ll be more confident in your skills and your creativity. You’ll end up being more productive. And once you’re more productive, you get more experience, and with experience comes ease.

So, repeat after me:

“I am a good writer. I write good sentences.”

Much love,

Word Witch Autumn
